In the series I place a drop of black onto the indentation and use my breath the spread the liquid over the surface giving it movement and life. Each one is just a little different as you can see in the photograph grouping of three.

The surface is unglazed porcelain which has a wonderful satin feel. It may patina over time but I have been using mugs and oil bottles I’ve made with an unglazed porcelain surface for years and it always cleans up perfectly.

All of the oil cruets are made on the potters wheel and glazed by hand making each one unique. Each one will be a little different in size, shape and color tone.

Something interesting and personal about the olive oil bottles is that they are somewhat of a challenging shape to make. I find I have to be very present for each one while working at the wheel. After over 30 years of making pottery, it seems my best work is made while in a state of peace or better yet, joy.
